October 6th

Today is October 6th.

A few miles north of our farm in just 2 days, over 2,000 athletes will embark on a 140.6-mile journey that presents the ultimate test of body, mind and spirit to earn the title of IRONMAN. You can follow the race on the Ironman website and some sports networks.

Down south a bit we will still be picking coffee cherry. Our first cherries have been picked by only 3 people who are diligently braving the sun, rain and rocks to get our first crop picked. Granted we could use lots more pickers and are looking for them.

The first bags of cherry have all been pulped (that removes the fleshy outside part of the cherry) and then the remaining bean inside the parchment has been soaked to remove the mucilage. The beans are now on the drying decks. We had a few bags ready early so took advantage of 2 different drying decks. We have now combined the beans on one deck and all will be sent to the drum to finish the drying process. That is expected to take up to 2 weeks.

As soon as the beans are dry we will be having them milled and will test roast. Then the final roasting will be done.

We are still looking at the end of October to offer them for sale to the public.
